CEBU -- The young unwed mother who was humiliated by a priest during her baby's baptism once tried to commit suicide.
The 17-year-old hanged herself inside their house after learning she was pregnant and that her boyfriend has another girlfriend.
Her brother rushed her to the hospital. She said she was 6 months pregnant when she tried to kill herself.
On Sunday, the young mother was berated by Fr. Romeo Obach during the baptism of her baby.
A video clip that spread on Facebook shows Obach of the Sacred Heart Chaplaincy in Eversely Child Sanitarium rebuking the 17-year-old single mother.
Speaking in Cebuano, the priest castigated the woman for having a baby with a man who is not her husband.
The priest also warned the mother that the consequences of her actions may be passed on to her child, as her child was "born in sin."
Obach issued a public apology on Tuesday. He also visited the woman's mother to ask for forgiveness.
Although she earlier said that it would be difficult for her to forgive the priest, the young mother now said that she is willing to forgive Obach if their meeting will push through.
She also went through stress debriefing due to the incident.
